The Future Of Reading

Insdream SX601, a chinese Kindle clone without e-ink display

The Insdream SX601

A new Kindle clone comes from China. The Indsream SX601 eBook Reader is very, very similar to the Kindle in appearance and design but features a few noticeable differences. The SX601 has a 6-inch display, like Kindle and nook, but rather than using e-Ink’s Vizplex panel they’ve opted for a 16-greyscale-level DSTN panel with faster refresh times and the same power efficiency as an e-ink panel.

There’s no wireless or interntal storage. SX601 reader has a SD card slot to hold their eBooks, and transfer them to the device via USB. The device plays MP3s stored on the SD card, and it has some other basic features – text-to-speech in English and Mandarin Chinese, a calendar, a calculator and a diary function that the software calls ‘Blogging’. Supported formats include TXT, HTML, PDF, EPUB, PDB, FB2, CHM, RTF,TCR, OEB and OpenReader.

No words on pricing or availability, the Insdream SX601 could be a low-cost competitor to the Kindle, Nook and Sony eReaders.
