Amazon.com makes big claims about its Kindle reader‘s popularity — but has not backed it up with hard numbers of devices sold. The closest the company came on Thursday was when CEO Jeff Bezos said “millions” of people own the device.

The total number of Kindles out there in users hands posibly hit 3 million sometime in December, before the new Kindle DX with Global Wireless arrived on January, 19.

Bezos also said that Amazon is selling 6 Kindle books for every 10 physical copies.
